Bylaw panel takes no vote on hunting, four other drafts

Bylaw Committee · Meeting of October 20, 2026

Hadley's Bylaw Committee clarified that a hunting-related proposal was never a town-wide ban after social media rumors spread. Two residents, including one identified as Mitch, pressed the committee, which said the original idea only concerned regulating hunting near town water infrastructure like the Mount Warner water tanks. One member said, "This committee has zero authority to enact anything," noting any bylaw needs Select Board, Attorney General and Town Meeting approval.

The panel also reviewed drafts on police event authority, Finance Committee member removal, an 11-page exterior lighting bylaw, and a food truck bylaw nearing readiness for the Annual Town Meeting, but took no votes on any of them. Committee member Jim said the Finance Committee bylaw "is not ready to go" and promised removal-process language by the November 17 meeting.
