Finance Panel Finds No Recourse on Library Roof
Hadley Finance Committee finds no recourse on a $1.5 million library roof failure.
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Hadley Finance Committee finds no recourse on a $1.5 million library roof failure. Town Administrator Nate Molloy told the panel the library's roof, built with asphalt shingles instead of its originally designed standing-seam metal, has leaked for years, but the statute of limitations against the builder has expired. Members also reviewed a landfill solar array racing a 2027 federal tax-credit deadline, a possible Route 9 fire district, and six resident questions on commercial assessments headed to the Board of Assessors, including whether Hadley should adopt a split tax rate like West Springfield's $14.20 residential and $29.59 commercial rates.
Member Peter Matuszko argued proposed 40R housing growth would "break even" once added police, fire and school costs are counted. No votes were taken beyond a unanimous motion to adjourn.
