Hadley Ag Panel Tables Solar Policy Discussion
Hadley's Agricultural Commission tabled a vote on supporting farmland solar installations until more members can attend.
Agricultural Commission · Meeting of May 27, 2026
Hadley's Agricultural Commission tabled a vote on supporting farmland solar installations until more members can attend. A Pioneer Valley Planning Commission representative told the panel that roughly 43 miles of agricultural drainage ditches between Hadley and Hatfield have been mapped under a state Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant, with another 20 miles identified but not yet surveyed. Member Gordon Cook, Jr. confirmed town meeting had already passed bylaw language requiring a two-thirds vote on related screening rules.
A member raised the agrivoltaics question, noting "quite a few farms in Hadley are going for solar installations." The panel needs written comments on the ditch maps by the end of June to meet the state funding deadline, and voted unanimously to table further solar policy discussion to a future meeting.
