Hadley special town meeting approved all 25 warrant articles, draining free cash to $465,000 and advancing a $181,500 sidewalk study. Town Administrator Nathaniel Moroy told voters the free cash balance would drop from $1.085 million after the night's spending, which included $750,000 for sewer asset management and $350,000 for water repairs. A Finance Committee split on a $90,000 water truck replacement, which passed 83-29 after Director of Public Works Scott McCarthy said the current vehicle "needs a lot of work, thousands of dollars worth of work" and is out of service.
Voters approved $181,500 in Community Preservation Act funds, 96-8, to design multi-use paths on Middle and East streets, with officials citing up to $1.5 million in potential state grants. A citizen petition for solar-powered rail-trail crossing lights passed 98-4 as an advisory request to the Select Board, with organizer Linda LaDuke calling the crossings "very dangerous."
