Hadley Library Board Approves $23,005 in Roof and Door Repairs
HADLEY — August 12, 2025 — Hadley Library trustees approved $23,005 in building repairs at their August 12 meeting. The board voted unanimously to spend $14,800 with Gale Associates for a Phase 5 investigation of suspected flashing failures behind the library's clerestory wall — the latest in a series of diagnostic phases the director said has now cost roughly $94,000 in consultant fees — and $8,205 with New England Door Closer Incorporated to add a center mullion and relocate a chronically failing lock mechanism on the building's main entry doors. Both expenditures will draw from a remaining construction fund the director estimated at approximately $50,000. Library Director Patrick also reported that July patron counts hit an all-time high at 145 visitors per day and 25 per hour on average, a 43 percent monthly increase, while staffing has grown from 3.5 to only 4.0 full-time equivalents since the library moved into its current building — a gap he said is pushing staff toward capacity limits and may force a reduction in service hours or scope.
