Hadley Library Board Unanimously Adopts New Long-Range Strategic Plan Objectives

HADLEY — December 9, 2025 — Hadley Library trustees voted unanimously to adopt the objectives of a new long-range strategic plan, restoring the library's eligibility for state grants after roughly a decade without a filed plan. Library Director Patrick told the board that November foot traffic was up 23 percent over 2024, with a record average of 131 patrons per day, yet custodial service has simultaneously been cut from three days per week to two following the retirement of a town DPW employee who is not being replaced. "To go down to two is pretty rough," the director said, adding he would seek a meeting with the town administrator and DPW to argue that building usage should factor into custodial resource allocation. The six-objective plan covers fundraising development, grant-seeking, volunteerism, accessibility, building maintenance, and accountability; trustees noted the library raised $300,000 through a capital campaign — including a $50,000 gift from People's Bank — when it built the current facility, and said rebuilding that infrastructure is now a priority. The board also voted 5-0 to enter executive session to discuss a non-union personnel contract.
