Climate Change Committee · Meeting of May 14, 2026
Hadley's Climate Change Committee discussed requiring solar power and EV charging in future municipal buildings but took no formal votes. Jack Czajkowski reported that this year's spring cleanup day drew 40 volunteers plus 20 students and teachers from Hadley schools, collecting three bags of aluminum cans. Co-Chair Kathy Nelson said contractor AEG is air-sealing a skylight at Hopkins School under the town's Green Communities grant, with about $13,000 left to spend.
The panel also discussed reviving a Valley Bike Share station near the Hadley Mall and continued promoting the book "Plastic Ink," all nine of the library's copies of which are checked out with 13 people on the waitlist. Members noted Town Meeting recently changed solar bylaw screening language from "shall" to "may" by a narrow margin, something the committee said it had not been aware was coming.
