CPA Committee · Meeting of March 2, 2026
HADLEY — The Hadley Community Preservation Committee voted 6-0-0 to recommend a $9,450 warrant article funding a Lake Warner phosphorus study. Friends of Lake Warner representatives Brian and Becca rebutted a Gazette letter questioning the safety of a lanthanum-based product used to bind phosphorus, with one member calling the radioactivity claims "scientifically inaccurate." The committee, chaired by Mary, also approved a letter of support for a Porter-Phelps-Huntington Foundation grant, 6-0-0, and reviewed a treasurer's report showing a $1,532,600 undesignated CPA fund balance and $9,073 in the open space reserve. Members also discussed requiring pre-application meetings for CPA applicants and floated projects including Town Hall window restoration, heat pumps for Hopkins Academy, and using Affordable Housing Trust funds to boost a senior housing project's affordable units from seven to 10.
