The Hadley Historical Commission voted unanimously to support restoring a historic barn at 105 Middle Street.
Historical Commission · Meeting of May 18, 2026
HADLEY — The Hadley Historical Commission voted unanimously to support restoring a historic barn at 105 Middle Street. The owners, who bought the property in 2022, told the commission they plan to preserve original beams and the barn's exterior while possibly adding a first-floor accessible one-bedroom apartment under the town's accessory-dwelling-unit size limit. A member said getting the long-dormant Women's Christian Temperance Union fountain on the common "fully functional" as a drinking fountain "may be cost prohibitive," after contacting DPW staffer Scott McCarthy and Gary Berg about plumbing requirements.
The commission also reviewed house-plaque designs from a vendor, Slate Expectations, quoting about $40 per hand-painted slate sign, with bulk orders possible in batches of 30. No other formal votes were taken.
